In order to improve visibility over freight cars on the deck of a car float, the railroad tugboat was built with a taller pilothouse. Starting in the 1920s, many railroads began modernizing their fleets with diesel-electric tugs. Not only did they use similar technology to the then-new diesel locomotives, many were painted in the same colorful schemes. These newer tugs remained in service for years, with a few serving new owners yet today. Ready to handle chores in any busy harbor, the Railroad Tugboat kit builds into a detailed replica of the later diesel-electric designs. It features the tall pilot house, along with various roof details, towing bitts, masts and a host of other details. Complete instructions simplify construction and decals are also included.
