By 1969, Chevrolet had won the American Trans-Am title (and would win again later in the year) and the track-focused Camaro Z28 street-racer proved to be a huge sales success, tripling sales from 1968, thanks to its standard 302 cubic inch V-8 with 4-barrel carburetor and Hurst close-ratio four-speed gearbox, plus a huge range of factory and dealer options such as dual 4-barrel carbs, chambered exhaust pipes and front or four-wheel disc brakes.</p> <p>The functional front splitter and rear spoiler took the track pedigree to the road, boosting aerodynamics and grip at top speeds.
